‘It’s the best’ Amanda Seyfried shares surprising Met Gala prep

Amanda Seyfried

Amanda Seyfried traded farm chores for fashion Monday night as the Oscar-nominated actress revealed she spent the morning of the Met Gala hanging out with her donkey before stepping onto one of fashion’s biggest red carpets.

Speaking to Vogue’s Met Gala livestream hosts Ashley Graham and Cara Delevingne, Seyfried shared that she began her day on her farm in the Catskills, New York, with her beloved donkey Gus before heading into Manhattan for the annual event at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

“[Having a donkey] is great. It’s the best thing,” Seyfried said. “I was rubbing his ears this morning to get ready.”

The Housemaid actress said the contrast between her quiet upstate life and the glamour of the Met Gala helps keep her grounded. “It’s nice to come to the giant Met Ball having had just been walking to the clovers and petting the goats and horses,” she said. “But I did start out my day there. It’s so balanced.”

Seyfried attended the gala in a pink Prada ballgown and candidly admitted she was wearing Spanx underneath the look while also dealing with acne flare-ups. “I’m on medicine right now for acne on my chin,” she shared, prompting Delevingne to respond, “Babe, I’m on that too.”

The actress noted she has simplified her skincare routine in recent years, adding, “I used to get facials, which are also really great.”

Seyfried has long embraced life away from Hollywood. In a previous interview with Forbes, she described moving from Los Angeles to her Catskills farm as “essential” for her mental health. “Staying here was the best decision for privacy, peace and nature,” she said. “It offers a more balanced life than the city does.”

The actress and her husband, Thomas Sadoski, share two children and a growing collection of animals, including goats, chickens, horses, and dogs. Seyfried previously credited her 15-year-old Australian Shepherd Finn with helping her stay grounded during the early years of her career.

“My pets truly keep me balanced,” she said.
