The International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE) announced that its members have overwhelmingly ratified both the 2024-2027 Hollywood Basic Agreement and the 2024-2027 Area Standards Agreement.
The approval rates were 85.9% and 87.2% respectively, with all Locals voting in favor and delegate counts being unanimous for both contracts. Voter turnout was historically high, reflecting strong member engagement.
This is only the second time in history that the Hollywood Basic and Area Standards agreements were negotiated and voted on concurrently. The Hollywood Basic Agreement, an umbrella contract, covers approximately 45,000 behind-the-scenes film and television workers in Los Angeles, spanning IATSE’s 13 West Coast Studio Locals.
The Area Standards Agreement covers 23 local unions and around 25,000 film and television workers across the U.S., excluding major cities like Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco, and Chicago.
REELated:
IATSE International President Matthew D. Loeb said, “IATSE’s rank-and-file members have spoken, and their will is clear. Between significant wage increases in addition to several craft-specific adjustments, bolstered health/pension benefits with new funding mechanisms, improved safety provisions, critical protections preventing misuse of artificial intelligence from displacing IATSE members, and more — The gains secured in these contracts mark a significant step forward for America’s film and tv industry and its workers. This result shows our members agree, and now we must build on what these negotiations achieved.”
As these contracts take effect on August 4, IATSE plans to educate its members on the new terms and launch an enforcement campaign during the agreement’s three-year term. Additionally, IATSE will continue supporting the Teamsters and Hollywood Basic Crafts, who are still negotiating with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP), and the Animation Guild, whose agreements with AMPTP are set to expire on August 16.
IATSE expressed gratitude to the Contract Action Team (CAT) for their efforts in keeping members engaged and informed, and to the Contract Negotiating Committee for their essential role in securing the gains achieved in these agreements. Further information about the contract and ways to stay involved will be provided in the coming days.
The Teamsters are still negotiating. Their contract expires at 11:59 July 31.
