In a show of unwavering unity, the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE) has reaffirmed its steadfast support for the Hollywood Basic Crafts unions as negotiations with the Alliance of Motion Pictures and Television Producers (AMPTP) continue.

The statement, issued today by IATSE, highlights the collaborative efforts between IATSE and the Hollywood Basic Crafts unions, which include Teamsters Local 399, International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 40 (IBEW), Laborers International Union of North America Local 724 (LiUNA!), United Association Plumbers Local 78 (UA), and Operating Plasterers & Cement Masons International Association (OPCMIA) Local 755. These unions have joined forces in a historic move, jointly negotiating their shared MPI benefits at the bargaining table for the first time in decades.

“As the Teamsters and Hollywood Basic Crafts resume negotiations with the studios, we reiterate our full support for their fight for fair wages, safe working conditions, AI protections, bolstered benefits, and more — just as their unions have supported us,” the statement reads.

The negotiations are crucial for addressing the unique priorities of the Hollywood Basic Crafts unions, which represent a diverse array of essential workers in the film and television industry. The unions’ demands include equitable compensation, improved safety measures, protections against automation impacts (AI protections), enhanced benefits packages, and other critical reforms aimed at ensuring the well-being and security of their members.

“We urge the AMPTP to negotiate in good faith and come to fair agreements that acknowledge the indispensable contributions of the Teamsters and Hollywood Basic Crafts unions,” the statement concludes, emphasizing the indispensable role these skilled professionals play behind the scenes in bringing entertainment to life.

The ongoing negotiations underscore the industry’s dependence on its dedicated workforce and the collective resolve of IATSE and the Hollywood Basic Crafts unions to secure a fair and equitable contract that reflects their invaluable contributions to the entertainment sector.

For updates on the negotiations and further developments, stakeholders and industry observers are closely monitoring the progress as negotiations resume between the unions and the AMPTP.
