History was made this morning and it’s fitting that the city where liberty was born sealed the deal. CNN, the New York Times, NBC, The Washington Post have projected Democratic nominee Joe Biden, Jr. as the 46th President of the United States.

Biden, 77, will be the oldest president to occupy the White House. He will turn 78 in two weeks.

The President-elect, who had run for president twice before, surpassed the 270 electoral votes required to win the White House by flipping the battleground states of Wisconsin, Michigan, and Pennsylvania, according to projections by Decision Desk HQ.

History has also been made as California Biden’s vice presidential running mate, California Senator, Kamala Harris becomes the country’s first female, Black and Indian American Vice President.

The call was first made by Decision HQ and Insider made the call at 8:49 a.m. EST on Friday November 6. AP, the BBC and others called the election for Biden shortly after 11 a.m. EST.

Biden had over 4 million more popular votes than Trump as of early Saturday, a lead that’s likely to grow as states finalize their results in the coming days and weeks.

Biden has just released a tweet. In it he says, “America, I’m honored that you have chosen me to lead our great country. The work ahead of us will be hard, but I promise you this: I will be a President for all Americans — whether you voted for me or not. I will keep the faith that you have placed in me.”

Before becoming the Democratic presidential nominee, Biden served as VP under former President Barack Obama. He is also Delaware’s longest-serving senator.

Throughout his campaign, Biden has argued that the “soul of the nation” is at stake, and has promised that he would seek to heal a country fractured by Trump’s presidency.
