High-profile Showrunners to meet with WGA leaders Friday

As the writers’ strike has now entered its 20th week, a group of prominent television creators, including Kenya Barris (Black-ish), Noah Hawley (Fargo, Legion), and Sam Esmail (Mr. Robot, Euphoria), is scheduled to meet with the leadership of the Writers Guild of America (WGA).

This development signifies a show of solidarity with the ongoing WGA strike and a quest for updated information on the progress of negotiations.

Negotiations between the WGA and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) have reached an impasse, with both sides waiting for the other to present a counteroffer. The top showrunners aim to provide support to the WGA in its efforts to secure a new Minimum Basic Agreement, which is vital for the future of the industry.

“I, like everybody, am frustrated with how long this has been dragging on, but there’s an enormous amount of solidarity here. That’s the important message to take from today is that while people are hurting and people are frustrated, they are united and they are strong in fighting for what we feel we deserve,” Modern Family co-creator Steve Levitan told The Hollywood Reporter on Tuesday at Fox. “I don’t think anybody is really second-guessing and looking for ways to cause some disruption in the leadership of the guild. We’re just always trying to see if there are any ways anybody can help.”

While the frustration with the WGA strike’s duration is palpable, there is a resounding sense of unity and solidarity among industry professionals. Showrunners are expressing their willingness to compromise and reach an agreement that could benefit all stakeholders.
