Doomsday is coming. Marvel Studios transformed San Diego Comic-Con’s Hall H into the domain of Doctor Doom as the filmmakers and enormous ensemble behind Avengers: Doomsday assembled to unveil an exclusive new look at the upcoming film.
Directors Joe and Anthony Russo were joined by heroes from across the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the Fantastic Four and Fox’s original X-Men films, giving fans their clearest indication yet of just how expansive Marvel’s next Avengers event will be.
Rather than entering together from backstage, the cast appeared throughout Hall H on two specialized platforms. One was marked with the Avengers symbol. The other carried a giant X.
Among the actors joining the Russos were Rebecca Romijn, Kelsey Grammer, James Marsden, Lewis Pullman, Tenoch Huerta, David Harbour, Hannah John-Kamen, Letitia Wright, Winston Duke, Simu Liu, Danny Ramirez, Anthony Mackie, Paul Rudd, Pedro Pascal, Hayley Atwell, Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr.
The massive gathering culminated in a cast selfie with the Hall H crowd, visually bringing together several generations of Marvel storytelling in one room.
And then Doom took control.
Hall H Joins Doctor Doom
Attendees were handed Doctor Doom masks and green capes before Downey stepped forward to address the audience. As fans put them on, the lighting inside Hall H shifted green, turning the entire crowd into Doom’s army.
“It’s not easy being green,” Downey joked.
The actor acknowledged the scale of returning to Marvel not as Tony Stark, but as the franchise’s next great adversary. “I need a lot of help,” he said. “I need this whole family around me to finally assist me in being an arch-enemy, which is daunting.”
Downey’s casting as Doctor Doom was first revealed at Marvel’s 2024 Comic-Con presentation, where the former Iron Man star removed Doom’s mask in front of a stunned Hall H audience.
Two years later, Downey reflected on the trust fans placed in him when Marvel announced that unexpected return. “When y’all had faith in me two years ago, you lifted me up, and I think we made something real special,” he told the crowd.
He then offered a warning that sounded very much like Victor von Doom. “Decisions will have to be made,” Downey continued. “Perhaps you’re on the side of the good guys, or perhaps you’ll have to consider the alternative.”
Marvel did not release the exclusive footage publicly, but the presentation reinforced the idea that Doomsday will place its heroes in a conflict where the dividing lines may be more complicated than simply Avengers versus villain. Watch the announcement below:

The Hall H staging made Marvel’s intentions difficult to miss.
By positioning actors beneath separate Avengers and X-Men symbols, the studio emphasized the convergence of teams and timelines that has been building throughout the Multiverse Saga.
Kelsey Grammer returns as Beast, James Marsden as Cyclops and Rebecca Romijn as Mystique, reconnecting the film to the earlier X-Men franchise. They will share the event with MCU veterans including Anthony Mackie’s Captain America, Letitia Wright’s Shuri, Simu Liu’s Shang-Chi, Paul Rudd’s Ant-Man and Chris Evans, whose role remains one of the movie’s biggest questions.
The film will also involve Marvel’s newest families and factions.
Pedro Pascal represents the Fantastic Four, while David Harbour, Hannah John-Kamen and Lewis Pullman bring members of the Thunderbolts into the increasingly crowded conflict.
Whether these heroes arrive as allies, enemies or pawns in Doom’s larger design remains unknown.
Deadpool Wants In
Marvel’s carefully orchestrated presentation was briefly hijacked when a grey-costumed Deadpool appeared among the audience.
The masked figure was revealed to be Ryan Reynolds, who began peppering the cast and filmmakers with questions while strongly suggesting that Deadpool deserved a place in the movie.
Marvel stopped short of confirming Wade Wilson’s involvement, but Reynolds’ surprise appearance ensured the possibility will remain part of the conversation.
After Deadpool & Wolverine opened the door between the MCU and Fox’s Marvel universe, it would hardly be shocking to see the Merc with a Mouth wander into another reality-threatening event.
Then again, the appearance may have been nothing more than Reynolds doing what Deadpool does best: inserting himself into a story that had not invited him.
Downey’s Most Difficult Marvel Transformation
The greatest mystery surrounding Avengers: Doomsday remains Downey himself. Marvel has yet to explain whether his Victor von Doom merely resembles Tony Stark, whether he is a Stark variant or whether the resemblance will be ignored entirely.
That uncertainty may be central to the film.
For the Avengers who loved Tony Stark, facing an enemy with his face could transform Doom from another world-conquering villain into something deeply personal. It also gives Downey the difficult task of creating a character powerful enough to escape the shadow of the hero he played for more than a decade.
His Hall H appearance suggested he understands the challenge.
Tony Stark entered the MCU as a man learning how to become a hero. Victor von Doom may arrive as a man utterly convinced that only he is capable of saving reality.
The difference between those two men could determine the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Avengers: Doomsday arrives in theaters Dec. 18.
