Gunman arrested near Vice President’s D.C. residence

While Vice President Kamala Harris and her family are currently not living on the grounds of the Naval Observatory as it undergoes renovations, that did not stop a 31-year-old San Antonio, Texas man from trespassing on the property armed with a firearm and ammo.

According to CNN, a spokesperson for Washington’s Metropolitan Police said officers responded “at approximately 12:12 pm, to the 3400 block of Massachusetts Avenue, NW in reference to a suspicious person based on an intelligence bulletin that originated from Texas, who was detained by US Secret Service.”

Law enforcement contacted the man after an area-wide intelligence bulletin had been issued for the suspect.

Police reportedly found an AR-15, a large amount of ammunition and several gun clips in a black Chevy Impala car belonging Murray. .

“MPD members arrested and charged 31 year-old Paul Murray, of San Antonio, TX, for Carrying a Dangerous Weapon, Carrying a Rifle or Shotgun Outside of a Business, Possession of Unregistered Ammunition, and Possession of a Large Capacity Ammunition Feeding Device. A rifle and ammunition were recovered from the subject’s vehicle,” the spokesperson said.

Murray is charged with several count: carrying a dangerous weapon, carrying a rifle or shotgun outside of a business, possession of unregistered ammunition and possession of a large capacity ammunition feeding device.

Andrew Leyden, a former Capitol Hill staffer who lives near the Naval Observatory, described to CNBC what he witnessed while passing by on a scooter.

“A bunch of cops passed me at the National Cathedral,” which is just up the road from the Observatory, Leyden said. “What was really odd was it was marked units and unmarked units.”

The vice president and her husband, Doug Emhoff, currently is living at Blair House, near the White House.
