Greenland 2: Migration expands the franchise in new trailer

Greenland

After the global success of Greenland, Lionsgate and STXfilms are returning to the shattered world of survival with Greenland 2: Migration, a sequel that broadens the scope of the original’s intimate disaster story.

Set in the aftermath of a comet strike that wiped out much of the planet, Greenland 2: Migration follows the Garrity family as they are forced to leave the relative safety of their Greenland bunker and venture into an unstable, devastated world in search of a new home. The film reunites Gerard Butler, Morena Baccarin, and Roman Griffin Davis, continuing the emotionally grounded survival story that resonated with audiences the first time around. Watch the trailer below:

Released in 2020, Greenland exceeded expectations during a challenging theatrical and premium VOD period, becoming one of the year’s most-watched home-entertainment titles worldwide. The film was praised for its stripped-down realism, focusing less on spectacle and more on the human cost of global catastrophe, a tone that helped distinguish it within the disaster genre and build a strong fan base.

The sequel is again directed by Ric Roman Waugh, with a script by Chris Sparling and Mitchell LaFortune, based on characters created by Sparling. Producers include Basil Iwanyk, Erica Lee, Butler, and a producing team spanning Thunder Road Films, Anton, G-Base, and CineMachine.

New cast members joining the franchise include Amber Rose Revah, Sophie Thompson, Trond Fausa Aurvåg, and William Abadie.

Rated PG-13 for strong violence, bloody images, and action, Greenland 2: Migration positions itself as a larger, more perilous evolution of the franchise, expanding the world while keeping its focus firmly on survival, family, and hard choices in the face of extinction.
