First look at Batwoman and her Batmobile

(We finally see Javicia as the Scarlet Knight)

The Scarlet Knight is here. The CW has finally released the first official pics of actress Javicia Leslie as Batwoman. And she is pretty “Bat-ass.”

As widely reported, Leslie has replaced Ruby Rose for the second season of The CW’s DC Comics-based series. Leslie, who co-starred on CBS’ God Friended Me for two seasons, will play a new character, Ryan Wilder.

The producers say Ryan will initially don Kate Kane’s suit at the beginning of Season 2, but as she grows into her role as Gotham City’s protector, she will design her own take on the iconic suit. The new suit features a new cowl with curly hair highlighted by red streaks. Ryan will also sport new red gauntlets over her forearms and shorter boots.

Here’s what showrunner Caroline Dries had to say about the upgraded suit: “Ryan’s journey starts from a place of ‘What can this Batsuit do for me?’ But it’s not long before she realizes the power of its symbol and what it can do for everyone else in Gotham City. As Ryan embraces everything that makes her special, she adjusts the suit to fit her physically and figuratively. This meant creating a new body design and new cowl that was undeniably a statement that screamed ‘powerful.’

She adds, “Maya Mani sent me her drawings and I loved it. The wig was something we never perfected in season one, and Janice Workman crushed it with this new take. When I see it, I smile. It makes me feel inspired. ” Take a look below:

“I love the fact that Ryan is becoming her own Batwoman — it’s her style, her swag, and her moment,” noted Leslie. It was an honor to be able to collaborate with Caroline and Maya. I felt it was important that viewers could tell by the silhouette that Batwoman was a Black girl. With the form-fitting suit and beautiful Afro, we definitely nailed it!”

The CW says Ryan will reveal her new suit in the third episode.

Bat wait, there’s more – a new Batmobile

Now that the series is in full-on production, there have been sightings of Ryan’s Batmobile. It’s rather ordinary looking when it is stopped, but could look better in motion. This could also theoretically be a prototype, but given CW budgets, this probably is it.

Very few details have been revealed about what’s to come in season two of Batwoman, and it will probably be a while before The CW shares anything else. For now, here’s an official description:

Ryan Wilder is about to become Batwoman. She’s likable, messy, a little goofy and untamed. She’s also nothing like Kate Kane, the woman who wore the Batsuit before her. With no one in her life to keep her on track, Ryan spent years as a drug-runner, dodging the GCPD and masking her pain with bad habits. Today Ryan lives in her van with her plant. A girl who would steal milk for an alley cat and could also kill you with her bare hands, Ryan is the most dangerous type of fighter: highly skilled and wildly undisciplined. An out lesbian. Athletic. Raw. Passionate. Fallible. And very much not your stereotypical all-American hero.
