Editor Jen Dean joins Cut+Run

(Dean brings her talents to Cut+Run)

Our friends at Cut+Run have announced the addition of talented Jen Dean to its family of award-winning editors.  A native Texan, Dean went from studying experimental cinema with Stan Brakhage and Phil Solomon in Boulder, to assisting Hank Corwin for many years at Lost Planet.

Both experiences proved invaluable as she became an editor in her own right, developing a personal style that embraces her interests in fashion, documentary, and the blending of multimedia.

Raised on a diet of MTV, music is an ever-present part of Dean’s approach to projects. Throughout her career Jen’s love of music and knowledge of film history has always been at the forefront of her collaborations in the edit. Jen’s passion for storytelling can be seen in her work with a wide range of clients including Google, Instagram, The New York Times, Samsung, M&Ms, Olay, and Cotton.

In each, she conveys her passion for developing candid, open moments that celebrate humanity with expressive style.

“Jen is a massive talent whose work reflects her originality,” says Editor/Partner Gary Knight. “And while Jen’s incredible editing style makes her a great creative fit, it’s her dedication to community and nurturing young talent that makes her a natural addition to our team.”

Jen won the first AICE Award for best editing in a music video and continues to enjoy music-driven work, most recently with her longtime-collaborator director Danny Clinch.

A huge believer in the value of mentorship, Jen takes great pride in her time spent with assistants and getting to know the next generation of editors and creatives.

A spirit of collaboration and dedication to craft are a few of the reasons Jen was drawn to Cut+Run. “Cut+Run is thick with people I know and admire, and the work that comes from all of the locations is constantly outstanding,” said Dean. “I look forward to when we can all be together, but already feel very connected which speaks volumes about the welcoming, creative culture.”
