The first trailer for Dune: Part Three is here, and it’s not just bigger, it’s heavier, darker, and way more unsettling.
Director Denis Villeneuve isn’t treating this like a victory lap. Instead, he’s flipping the tone entirely. If the first film was about discovery and the second was war, this one leans into something sharper — a tense, psychological thriller where power has consequences, and nobody walks away clean.
Paul Atreides Isn’t the Hero Anymore
Timothée Chalamet returns as Paul Atreides, now ruling as emperor, and carrying the weight of a galaxy-wide jihad. The trailer makes it clear: this is no longer a coming-of-age story. This is about what happens after you win… and realize winning might’ve been the worst outcome.
Years have passed, and Arrakis itself has changed. But the bigger shift is Paul. He’s isolated, feared, and locked into a future he can see but can’t escape.
A Conspiracy Is Building
The film introduces a web of factions quietly moving against him, from the Bene Gesserit to political players within his own empire. Even his wife, Princess Irulan (Florence Pugh), is caught in the mix.
At the center of it all is a new wildcard: Robert Pattinson as Scytale, a shapeshifting operative whose loyalties are… unclear at best. Not your typical villain, more like a walking question mark with dangerous intentions. Watch below:
Despite the scale, the story still circles back to Paul and Chani. Zendaya returns, and the trailer hints their relationship is far from resolved. If anything, it looks like it may fracture even further, possibly into outright conflict. Villeneuve has made it clear: beneath all the politics and prophecy, this is still a love story. Just not a happy one.
One of the biggest surprises? Anya Taylor-Joy is stepping into a much larger role as Alia, now fully realized and deeply tied to Paul’s fate. Her character feels less like a side player and more like a force.
And then there’s the return of Duncan Idaho, sort of. Jason Momoa appears as a resurrected version of the character, raising questions about identity, memory, and whether anyone in this world is ever truly gone.
While the film draws from Dune Messiah, it’s already clear Villeneuve is remixing the timeline and characters. The story jumps further into the future than the book and introduces elements earlier than expected, including Paul’s children, who may play a bigger role than fans anticipated.
Dune: Part Three looks like the end of Paul’s arc, but not the end of the franchise. The seeds are clearly being planted for what comes next, whether Villeneuve sticks around or not.
One thing’s certain: this isn’t about a hero saving the world anymore. It’s about a man realizing he might have doomed it. And yeah… it looks absolutely incredible. Take a look at the incredible posters below:
