The Man Without Fear is heading toward its final chapter. Marvel’s Daredevil: Born Again will conclude with its upcoming third season on Disney+, bringing the latest chapter of Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdock to a close after a production run that has already undergone multiple creative overhauls.
The news comes alongside another major behind-the-scenes change: showrunner Dario Scardapane is no longer working on the series. His contract expired and was not renewed, even though Season 3 remains in post-production. Marvel has not said who will oversee the final stages.
Season 3 reportedly wrapped filming roughly two months ago and is expected to debut in 2027.
The series has centered on the escalating conflict between Murdock and Wilson Fisk, played by Vincent D’Onofrio, after Fisk became mayor of New York and began targeting vigilantes. Season 2 ended with Murdock being sent to prison.
The final season will also expand the show’s ties to the old Netflix-era Marvel universe. Krysten Ritter, Mike Colter and Finn Jones are expected to return as Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist, respectively, alongside Cox, bringing the surviving members of The Defenders back together.

Born Again has had an unusually complicated path to the screen.
Marvel originally announced the series in 2022 as an 18-episode revival with Matt Corman and Chris Ord serving as head writers. Production halted during the 2023 Hollywood strikes, after which Marvel initiated a significant creative reset. Corman and Ord departed, and Scardapane, who previously worked on Netflix’s The Punisher, joined as showrunner.
Directors Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead, whose Marvel credits include Loki and Moon Knight, also joined the project. The initial 18-episode order was ultimately divided into two seasons totaling 17 episodes.
Scardapane’s departure before Season 3’s completion adds another unexpected turn to a series that has been reshaped repeatedly since its inception.
It also comes as Marvel Television continues to reduce the number of live-action series it produces for Disney+.
VisionQuest, starring Paul Bettany, is scheduled to debut in October as the final chapter of the WandaVision trilogy. Marvel also reversed an earlier renewal for Wonder Man, leaving Daredevil: Born Again as one of the few remaining live-action Marvel series with a confirmed release ahead.
That doesn’t mean Marvel is abandoning television entirely. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the studio continues to develop several live-action projects and recently greenlit a spy thriller titled Zodiac. The name could potentially reference the Marvel Comics criminal organization associated with Scorpio, though details about the project remain scarce.
For Daredevil, however, the path is clearer.
After three seasons on Netflix, a revival, a creative overhaul, and three more seasons under the Born Again banner, Matt Murdock is heading into one more fight.
Hopefully, it means we will see Matt and co. in the movies.
