Warner Bros. Television’s acclaimed crime drama The Penguin (HBO | DC | Warner Bros. Television) topped the studio’s wins at the 77th Emmy Awards with nine Emmys, led by Cristin Milioti, who won Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie for her performance as Sofia Falcone. This is Milioti’s first Emmy.
A surprised Milioti took the stage and said, “Sorry, I wrote this on the back of notes I took in therapy the other day, so don’t look at the back.” She continued, “It’s very hard to make sense of being alive right now in this world, so I’m deeply grateful for the bright spots. Making this show with our incredible cast and crew, and getting to inhabit this woman was a bright spot for me.”
She added, “Despite it being very grisly, playing her felt like flying.” She thanked her family “for supporting your strange kid and showing the movies that were very inappropriate for my age.” She saluted creator Lauren LeFranc, “whose brain I wanna freebase,” before closing with, “I love you and I love acting so much,” punctuated by a joyful “Woo.”
The Penguin also earned honors across crafts at the Creative Arts ceremonies, underscoring its creative and technical excellence.
Channing Dungey, Chairman and CEO, Warner Bros. Television Group and WBD US Networks, said:
“Congratulations to Cristin Milioti on her first Emmy. Her portrayal of Sofia Falcone in The Penguin is riveting, layered, and fearless. We are thrilled to see her recognized by the Television Academy and proud of the extraordinary team behind The Penguin for its remarkable achievement.”
Warner Bros. Television’s hit medical drama The Pitt (HBO Max) won five Emmys, including two marquee awards on the telecast, Outstanding Drama Series and Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series for Noah Wyle, along with Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for Katherine LaNasa. At the Creative Arts ceremonies, the series added wins for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series for Shawn Hatosy and Outstanding Casting for a Drama Series. These were the first Emmy wins for Wyle, LaNasa, and Hatosy.
Dungey added: “We are beyond thrilled that The Pitt was honored as Outstanding Drama Series. Congratulations to Noah Wyle, Katherine LaNasa, Shawn Hatosy, John Wells, Scott Gemmill, and our partners at HBO Max. The work from this cast and crew represents excellence at every level.”
