Clash of Clans reimagines rom-com tropes as bromances

Clash of Clans

Clash of Clans is proving that Valentine’s Day isn’t just for couples. In a new campaign from DAVID New York, the mobile gaming giant flips classic romantic comedy moments into heartfelt bromances, all in the name of bringing lapsed players back to their clans.

The idea taps into a familiar truth: friendships, like relationships, require maintenance. Clanmates who once battled side by side can drift apart as schedules shift and life gets busy. This Valentine’s Day, Clash of Clans is “clashifying” iconic rom-com tropes to rekindle those bonds.

The campaign film recreates famous romantic gestures, but swaps romantic longing for gaming loyalty. In one scene, a group of friends gathers outside a buddy’s window, blasting recognizable in-game sounds from a phone, pleading for him to return to the clan.

In another, two friends arrive at a doorstep, holding handmade signs inviting their friend back to battle alongside them. The emotional beats then transition into the game itself, where rival characters put aside differences to unite for Clan Wars, mirroring the real-world friendships the campaign celebrates. Production was handled by Gravy Films, with Crobin Leo directing. Watch below:

“Rom-coms have always shown us how powerful emotional storytelling can be,” said Andre Toledo, Chief Creative Officer at DAVID New York. “For this campaign, we reimagined those classic tropes to celebrate friendship and connection in a way that feels playful, heartfelt and true to the world of Clash of Clans.”

With a wink to cinematic romance and a nod to gaming camaraderie, Clash of Clans reminds players that sometimes the greatest love story is between friends, and a clan that belongs together.
