Chris Evans returns in first Avengers: Doomsday teaser

Avengers: Doomsday

After a week of leaks, theater sightings, and calculated silence, Marvel Studios has officially released the first teaser trailer for Avengers: Doomsday, confirming what the internet already decided was inevitable. Chris Evans is back as Steve Rogers.

The teaser, which quietly began playing in theaters alongside Avatar: Fire and Ash before inevitably leaking online, now makes its official debut, kicking off what Marvel appears to be positioning as a slow drip rollout rather than a traditional trailer launch. Disney never announced plans for the footage to be a theatrical exclusive, instead letting leaks do what leaks always do. Drive the conversation anyway.

And drive it did. For a studio frequently accused of losing its grip on cultural dominance, the MCU has owned the discourse all week.

The teaser itself is intimate by Marvel standards. Evans’ Steve Rogers returns to the quiet life he earned at the end of Avengers: Endgame, back home with Peggy Carter. Eagle-eyed viewers will notice the wedding ring as Steve packs away his Captain America uniform, the same one last seen in 2019. He then picks up his baby and smiles, a visual shorthand for the happy ending fans were told was permanent.

Of course, it never is. Watch the trailer below:

With Doctor Doom positioned as a figure attempting to “save” the Multiverse, it seems clear that Steve and Peggy’s peace is temporary at best. Hayley Atwell does not appear in this teaser, though she is still expected to play a role in the film.

Sharing the teaser on Instagram, directors Joe Russo and Anthony Russo wrote, “The character that changed our lives. The story that brought us all here together. It was always going to come back to this.”

The Russos’ history with Marvel is well established. They entered the MCU with Captain America: The Winter Soldier in 2014, followed by Civil War, Infinity War, and Endgame, the latter remaining the highest-grossing superhero film of all time. Their return signals Marvel’s ongoing strategy of reverting to trusted architects as the Multiverse saga barrels toward its conclusion.

This teaser is reportedly the first of three, possibly four. A second preview centered on Chris Hemsworth’s Thor leaked earlier this week and was swiftly scrubbed from the internet. Expect Marvel to officially release that one soon, likely timed to hit theaters on a self-aware Thor’s day.

The film is directed by the Russo Brothers from a screenplay by Stephen McFeely, with additional work by Michael Waldron.

Avengers: Doomsday is set for release on December 18, 2026, followed by Avengers: Secret Wars on December 17, 2027. The endgame, again, is clearly underway. Can. Not. Wait.
