Carl Sundemo joins Epoch Films directorial roster

Carl Sundemo’s work has been called ”stupid ideas presented in a serious way,” and over the years he has built an oppressive interest for how crafted film worlds can be used in unusual ways. His films often play with known genres and troupes in advertising and other narratives, to great comedic effect.

As an ad school graduate from Sweden, Carl jumped straight into directing commercials and his interest for story development has since placed him on the board of the Screenwriter Program at the Higher Vocational Education in Sweden.

Over the course of his career, he has worked with agencies such as Wieden+Kennedy, CALLEN, CP+B, Virtue, Carmichael Lynch, Social Club Paris, FCB, Saatchi&Saatchi, SMFB and BBDO. Brands he’s worked with include projects for Liquid Death, Betty Crocker, Bush’s Baked Beans, LG, KIA, Milka and Comedy Central to name a few.

“Epoch constitutes the perfect platform for making stupid visual humor in a sophisticated way,” joked Carl. “They also have a long tradition of picking up directors from Scandinavia, so I guess the news value of me joining the Epoch family is rather low.”

REELated: Filmmaker Daniel Lawrence Wilson rolls with Contagious

“From the moment I clicked play, it was laugh at first sight,” said Epoch Partner and Managing EP Melissa Culligan. “It’s Carl’s uncanny mixture of humor and sophistication that I love. He’s a perfect fit for Epoch and we’re excited to be working alongside him.”

Carl & Epoch are represented in the west by Dexter Randazzo & Jonathan Logan at The Department of Sales; in the east by Tara Averill & John Robertson at RepresentationCo; and in the midwest by Chris Brown & Nicole Feddock at Baer Brown Reps.

Reel 360 wishes Carl the best of luck at Epoch Films. View his reel here.
