Cardi B hit the red carpet at Monday night’s Met Gala despite feeling under the weather. The “Bodak Yellow” rapper attended the annual fashion event at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art in a dramatic custom Marc Jacobs gown and later admitted she had been battling a fever throughout the evening.
“You wanna know a secret? I’m actually sick, and I have a fever,” Cardi told reporters in a clip shared by Variety. The divisive look featured oversized sculptural detailing around the shoulders and lower half of the gown, blending shades of pink, orange, purple, and nude with black leaf stitching and satin gloves underneath.
According to Vogue, the silhouette drew inspiration from the work of German artist Hans Bellmer, whose surreal life-sized doll sculptures helped influence the night’s “Fashion is Art” dress code.
Despite not feeling her best physically, Cardi still delivered one of the evening’s boldest fashion statements. The rapper recently opened up about how her approach to fashion and luxury spending has evolved, revealing she now prioritizes classic pieces over trend-driven purchases.
Speaking on Aspire with Emma Grede, Cardi admitted she regrets buying flashy jewelry early in her career. “Sometimes I’ll look at my closet and think, These bags are kind of ugly,” she said. “Don’t buy a chain with your name on it. That’s not timeless.”
Instead, Cardi said she now focuses on investment pieces like Hermès handbags and more classic jewelry styles that retain long-term value.
“Make sure you buy timeless Hermès bags,” she said. “The value of certain things just go up and down.”
