In a move that underscores just how deeply tech and media have become intertwined, the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity has named Andy Jassy, President and CEO of Amazon, its 2025 Media Person of the Year.
The annual honor, bestowed on those who have made a lasting impact on the creative communications industry, celebrates individuals whose vision, innovation, and influence have helped shape the future of media. Jassy joins an elite group of recipients that includes YouTube’s Salar Kamangar, Twitter’s Jack Dorsey, Google’s Eric Schmidt, Meta’s Mark Zuckerberg, and Microsoft’s Steve Ballmer.
Under Jassy’s leadership, Amazon has grown far beyond its e-commerce roots, becoming a global media powerhouse. From the dominance of Prime Video to the reach of Amazon Ads and the acquisition of MGM, the company has rapidly expanded its cultural footprint—turning media consumption into an increasingly frictionless part of the Amazon ecosystem.
Philip Thomas, Chair of LIONS, said, “Historically, each year, Cannes Lions has honoured outstanding leaders who have reshaped the media industry. This year, we are proud to recognise Andy Jassy and the entire Amazon organisation. Not only is Amazon the largest media platform globally, but it has also set new standards for scale, creativity, and influence.”
Jassy is expected to take the stage at the Debussy Theatre on Wednesday, June 18, for a fireside chat, before accepting the award at that evening’s show.
This marks yet another symbolic milestone for Amazon, and perhaps a signal that Cannes Lions is not just celebrating traditional ad creatives—but the tech titans who now own the playground.
