Representatives for the pop icon denied allegations that Spears behaved erratically while dining Wednesday night at Blue Dog Tavern in Sherman Oaks, calling the reports exaggerated and misleading.
The controversy erupted after TMZ reported that witnesses claimed Spears had been “screaming” and “barking” while carrying a knife through the restaurant.
According to Spears’ representative, that version of events simply didn’t happen. “Britney was enjoying a quiet dinner with her assistant and bodyguard,” the statement to People read.
The rep added that Spears was merely telling a story about her dog barking at the neighbors and that she was using the knife to cut her hamburger. “At no point did she put anyone in danger with a knife,” the statement continued. “This constant attack on everything that she does… is exactly what happened 20 years ago when the media tried to depict Britney as a bad person.”
Entertainment journalist Jeff Sneider added fuel to the online frenzy after posting on X that he had been dining near Spears during the incident. “She just left and everyone in the restaurant turned and started talking about it,” Sneider wrote. “An INSANE dining experience.”
The viral reaction arrives as Spears continues navigating renewed public scrutiny following her recent legal troubles and years of hyper-intense media attention surrounding her conservatorship battle and personal life.
Earlier this month, Spears pleaded guilty through her attorney to a reduced “wet reckless” charge tied to a March arrest in Ventura County after prosecutors dropped a DUI allegation. She was sentenced to probation, fines, a DUI education program, and ongoing treatment requirements.
At the same time, Spears has been posting frequently on social media about spirituality, healing, and personal growth.
Just days before the restaurant controversy, the singer shared Instagram posts describing herself as being on a “spiritual journey,” including videos holding a baby snake while discussing symbolism, luck, and higher consciousness.
“Snakes are symbolic of good health, higher consciousness, and pure luck,” Spears wrote. Whether the restaurant story ultimately proves overblown or not, the reaction once again highlights the uniquely intense microscope Spears still lives under decades into her fame.
