As the Covid-19 lockdown stretches on, individuals across the country are finding themselves in dire need of a haircut, and spouses, partners, parents and children are suddenly being enlisted as amateur barbers and stylists. You can only imagine the results. To help provide some relief, upscale men’s grooming boutique, Barba, in partnership with their longstanding agency, Terri & Sandy, has launched Quarancuts Virtual Hair School.
Every day, Barba’s owner and master stylist, Xavier Cruz, will guide amateur ‘stylists’ through haircuts on Zoom. Anyone interested in taking the ‘course’ can DM Barba on Instagram, and all Quarancuts sessions will air simultaneously on IGTV so friends, family and the greater community can get in on the lesson.
The first amateur stylist to attend Quarancuts was Grammy-winning singer, Tony-winning actor, and Pose star Billy Porter, who enlisted just yesterday to cut his husband Adam Smith’s hair.
Of his first Quarancuts experience Billy Porter said: “My nerves faded away with Xavier’s guidance. Humbling and Fabulous!” His husband Adam added: “Xavier saved the day teaching my husband how to give me a desperately needed trim.
Xavier Cruz says, ” These are tough times, made even harder because people don’t feel like themselves. I’m launching Quarancuts Virtual Hair School because feeling better now means more than ever. And no doubt, we’ll have some good laughs during these sessions, which we could all use right now.”
Terri & Sandy also created a host of digital and social content to launch the virtual school, including diplomas for graduates which will include before and after photos.

Terri & Sandy and Barba have worked on other culturally impactful initiatives like the transgender awareness campaign, ‘Strands for Trans’, and testicular cancer screening campaign, ‘Pay With Your Balls.’
“We noticed that searches for ‘home haircut’ are up 417%,” said Terri Meyer, co-founder and CEO of Terri & Sandy. “We wanted to provide a service that would enable people to control their hair – even if they can’t control anything else.”
Some of the Reel 360 team may need to take Xavier up on his virtual lessons very soon.
