Barbie, Poor Things, Saltburn shine at 2024 CDGA Awards

The 2024 Costume Designers Guild Awards (CDGA) honored outstanding achievements in costume design across film and television, with Barbie, Poor Things, and Saltburn emerging as winners.

Jacqueline Durran, the costume designer for Barbie, secured the Excellence in Sci-Fi/Fantasy Film award, while Holly Waddington of Poor Things received the Excellence in Period Film accolade. Sophie Canale’s work in Saltburn earned her the Excellence in Contemporary Film trophy.

Barbie and Poor Things, along with Killers of the Flower Moon (Jacqueline West), Napoleon (Janty Yates and Dave Crossman), and Oppenheimer (Ellen Mirojnick), are all nominated for the Oscar for Best Costume Design.

In the television categories, Beef, The Great, and Ahsoka claimed the Excellence in Contemporary, Period, and Sci-Fi/Fantasy Television awards, respectively.

The CDGA Awards ceremony, hosted by Wendi McLendon-Covey, also featured special honors for Annette Bening, Billie Eilish, and Francine Jamison-Tanchuck. Bening received the Spotlight Award for her enduring commitment to excellence in acting, recognized by Nyad costume designer Kelli Jones and costume designer Albert Wolsky.

Eilish was honored with the Vanguard Spotlight Award for her groundbreaking achievements in music and visionary courage, celebrated by Shirley Kurata, who designed Eilish’s Oscar-nominated Barbie soundtrack contribution, What Was I Made For.

The Career Achievement Award was presented to Francine Jamison-Tanchuck by Danielle Brooks of The Color Purple.
