Yesterday, Anomaly made a surprising announcement on its social channels: that this year’s Summer interns in the New York office would be replaced by AI efforts and resources.

The post said, “We’re so excited to announce that this summer, Anomaly New York is trying something different than our typical internship program.

This year we’re leaning even deeper into the highly compelling, constantly evolving world of emerging tech—and all of the amazing ways it can be applied to the way we work. And that includes the ways we can shift gears entirely and trial something new by replacing our longstanding internship program platform with…

The 2023 Summer of A.I.

We are obsessed with exploring the limits of AI, integrating it into every aspect of our practice. Every brief. Every project. Every meeting. All Summer Long.

We see this as the perfect opportunity to embrace our capabilities and flex on our understanding of emerging technologies, as well as trial the extent to which AI could be wholly and completely embedded in our operations.

We’re excited to share the learnings of this experiment, and we hope you are too. Stay tuned for updates along the way!”

Lies!

The rumors are false. This morning, the company has taken to its channels to reveal the true narrative: that AI, in actuality, stands for “Anomaly Interns” – and that AI could never really replace them.

Check out the video unveiling the announcement on Vimeo, Instagram, and LinkedIn.

REELated:

Anomaly historically has taken an intentional approach to its internship programs, each one uniquely designed to seek out, support, and develop the best, most diverse talent. This year’s program will follow in that tradition; the architecture around the marketing just took a provocative, tongue-in-cheek turn that perpetuates Anomaly’s open, irreverent and energizing culture.

“Anomaly has always seen creativity as a powerful force that far exceeds any traditional models or channels,” said Franke Rodriguez, Partner and CEO of Anomaly New York. “This particular creative expression of our internship application program carries the same goal as always: to land the most progressive, diverse, and curious interns who align with Anomaly’s change-agent mission. It’s equal parts dumb and ingenious.”

While AI familiarity will not serve as a requirement for this year’s Anomaly Interns, the agency is seeking curious minds looking to stay ahead of the curve in all things culture, AI included. Last summer, Anomaly welcomed Chris Neff as Global Head of Emerging Technology, deepening its investment in the space. Regarding this summer’s internship program, Neff said: “My primary goal is to help immerse both our teams and clients in the breadth of readily and rapidly evolving technologies at our disposal, ensuring emerging tech, like anything else, gets utilized by everyone at the agency, including interns.”

Anomaly has integrated AI (working with Buoy Studio) feedback into its intern application

this year in order to attract the best, brightest talent. To apply by April 10th, candidates can head to here. The application starts on the Anomaly Intern landing page website, where the different intern roles are described. The site then guides applicants through to a very common Typeform application with 12-questions. Upon submitting, applicants will receive a message confirming receipt and sharing a token of appreciation from the Anomaly Talent team: an AI-generated, one-of-a-kind image based on their application responses through an experience crafted by Neff and the team at Buoy Studio.
