Week Three of Johnny Depp’s increasingly bizarre libel trial against The Sun publisher National News Group continues to sink into the toilet. The Pirates of the Caribbean star is suing the company over a 2018 headline that called him a “wife-beater” after his ex-wife, Amber Heard, filed for both a restraining order and a divorce over allegations of domestic violence.
The megastar has denied all allegations of abuse.
On Wednesday, the High Court heard arguments over the 34-year-old Aquaman star’s testimony that her 57-year-old husband at the time attempted to spell her name in urine after a violent fight.
This comes after Depp accused Heard of defecating on their “marital bed.”
Heard claims that Depp had been struggling with substance-use issues, and that he repeatedly physically and verbally abused her while high.
On Wednesday, the Daily Mail reports, NGN’s attorney Sasha Wass questioned witnesses about Depp’s alleged attempt to spell Heard’s name with his own urine after a blow-up fight that wrecked their rented home in Australia in 2015—the same fight that ended with Depp’s finger severed.
Heard has alleged that during the fight, Depp slapped and shoved her, leaving cuts and bruises. Estate manager Ben King testified that he saw cuts on Heard’s arms after the fight.
Amber Heard’s “friend,” Raquel ‘Rocky’ Pennington, claimed in court that Heard was left ‘naked and bleeding’ on the floor as Depp ‘urinated on the furniture.”

Pennington says she lived in Depp’s penthouse block in Los Angeles for roughly two years between 2014 and 2016.
She said: “She [Heard] said that he was throwing glass bottles at her, and there was broken glass all over the ground which cut her feet.”
“She [Heard] said he backed her up against a bar and she was trying to support herself, but her arms were sliding down and getting cut by broken glass.
“Amber told me that at this point Johnny ripped off her nightgown and she was naked on the ground, all wet with alcohol, and bleeding.
“Amber told me that at some point during this fight Johnny had cut the tip of his finger off. Amber showed me pictures of painted messages Johnny had written all over the rental house in paint and his own blood.”
“She said that whilst she had gone to get dressed he had dipped his bloody finger in paint and written all over the walls and the lampshades. She said she came down and he was urinating on the furniture and had smashed the television.”
Depp has previously claimed the tip of his finger came off after Heard threw a bottle at him.
The case, the biggest English libel trial of the 21st century, is due to finish next week with closing submissions from both sides’ legal teams on Monday and Tuesday.
