“In recognition of Norman Lear’s vast accomplishments and influence across television, CBS, ABC, NBC, FOX and The CW will simulcast an on-air in memoriam card tonight at 8:00 p.m., ET/PT honoring the late legendary TV writer and producer,” the networks said in a joint statement.
The tribute extended beyond the major networks, as MeTV and Catchy Comedy also dedicated special programming to honor Lear. Viewers were treated to the 200th episode celebration of All in the Family, a show hosted by Lear himself. MeTV scheduled the special for Sunday night, with Catchy Comedy airing it on Friday evening. MeTV went a step further by featuring special episodes of Lear’s beloved series on Sunday, including notable appearances by Sammy Davis Jr. and holiday-themed episodes.
Lear’s impact on television cannot be overstated, with classics like All in the Family, The Jeffersons, and Good Times among the numerous series he created and led during his illustrious career.
