Alright, alright, alright – Matthew McConaughey is getting his own Alamo Drafthouse. On Monday, Aug. 10, Alamo Drafthouse Mueller in Austin officially became the Matthew McConaughey Cinema, honoring the actor, producer, and longtime Texas icon whose career has stretched from Dazed and Confused to Dallas Buyers Club, Interstellar, and True Detective.
The dedication was marked with a private ceremony, a Pantalones Organic Tequila toast and an early screening of McConaughey’s new film, The Rivals of Amziah King.
McConaughey introduced the film before joining director Andrew Patterson and lead actress Angelina LookingGlass for a post-screening Q&A. Watch the trailer below:

The renaming puts McConaughey alongside a select group of filmmakers and performers already honored across the Alamo Drafthouse circuit, including Bong Joon Ho at South Lamar, Christopher Nolan at New Mission in San Francisco, Pam Grier in Littleton, Spike Lee in Brooklyn, John Hughes in Chicago and Ivan Reitman in Lower Manhattan.
The Austin location is also only a short distance from Darrell K Royal – Texas Memorial Stadium, making the tribute especially fitting for the University of Texas alum and longtime Longhorns supporter.
For fans who couldn’t attend the dedication, Alamo Drafthouse is extending the celebration nationwide.
On Sunday, Aug. 16, participating theaters hosted a one-night-only The Rivals of Amziah King Cocktail Party screenings featuring the King’s Sting, a honey-forward cocktail made with Pantalones Organic Tequila. Guests received a complimentary cocktail kit and exclusive recipe card while supplies last.
Participating locations included theaters in New York, Los Angeles, Austin, the San Francisco Bay Area, Dallas-Fort Worth, Denver, Boston, the Twin Cities and Omaha.
