The AICP Next Awards will offer much more than a screening of new and experiential media on Monday night.

Beginning with cocktails and hor d’oeuvres at 6 p.m., the event’s inaugural run at the Gene Siskel Film Center expects to draw hundreds of professionals and supporters from Chicago’s advertising, film, visual effects and post-production industries.

The venue itself is a gem among Chicago cinemas. The multi-roomed Siskel Film Center boasts a café adorned with vintage film posters, a gallery overlooking State St., and the plushest seats in town. The whole thing will be dedicated exclusively to the AICP Next awards on Monday night.

In addition to nibbling and networking, the hour-long warm-up will offer guests the chance to check out emerging virtual reality work from the leading companies in the field, including Framestore, which recently launched a Chicago office in Greektown.

The main event will start at 7 p.m. with the Chicago premiere of the 2017 Next Awards reel followed by a panel discussion.

The 2017 Next Awards reel is a juried selection of non-broadcast new media work that debuted in New York earlier this summer and has been traveling the country ever since. In many ways, it is a younger sibling to the AICP reel, which consists of traditional broadcast work and will screen at the AICP Chicago Show later this month.

According to Story Executive Producer and AICP Board Member Mark Androw, the opportunity to view the Next reel only comes around once a year. “It’s amazing and unique work that you probably won’t see anywhere else,” he says. “It’s very inspiring and uplifting.”

After the screening, a select group of leaders from Chicago’s advertising, design and media industries will join AICP President Matt Miller to discuss the award-winning work. A Q&A will follow.
