The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has unveiled its newly elected Board of Governors for the 2024-2025 term. The governors will assume their roles at the first scheduled board meeting of the new term.

Incumbent Governors Reelected to the Board:

The 55-member Board now comprises 53% women and 27% members from underrepresented racial or ethnic groups.

Branch Elections and Representation

  • The Production and Technology Branch and Animation Branch did not hold elections.
  • The Academy’s 19 branches are typically represented by three governors each, except:
    • The Animation Branch has two governors.
    • The Short Films Branch has one governor.
    • The Production and Technology Branch has one governor.
  • Governors, including board-appointed governors-at-large, can serve up to two consecutive or non-consecutive three-year terms, followed by a two-year hiatus. They can serve additional terms up to a lifetime maximum of 12 years.

Role of the Board of Governors

The Board of Governors is responsible for setting the strategic vision of the Academy, ensuring its financial stability, and fulfilling its mission to advance the arts and sciences of motion pictures.
