77th Emmy Awards deliver largest audience since 2021

Emmy

The 77th Emmy Awards drew more than 7.42 million viewers on CBS and Paramount+, delivering the show’s biggest audience in four years. Hosted by Nate Bargatze, the broadcast ranked as the number one entertainment program of the night and was up 8 percent from last year’s telecast on ABC.

This year’s ceremony marked the most-watched Emmys since 2021, the last time CBS carried the show, and also became the most-watched entertainment special on the network since the GRAMMY Awards. For CBS, the increase signals a strong rebound for one of television’s most prestigious nights after years of declining viewership across awards programming.

Streaming numbers also made headlines. Live streaming on Paramount+ surged 76 percent compared to the last CBS-hosted Emmys in 2021, highlighting the growing role of digital platforms in delivering live events to audiences who are increasingly shifting away from traditional broadcast viewing.

The Emmy momentum carried over to the pre-show. Entertainment Tonight’s red carpet broadcast averaged 3.26 million viewers, up 12 percent from ABC’s coverage in 2024.

On social media, the Emmys generated 60.9 billion potential impressions and 1.6 million mentions, a 66 percent jump in impressions compared to last year. The hashtag #Emmys trended at number one in the United States for seven consecutive hours and remained in the top 10 for 11 hours.

With a mix of emotional tributes, milestone television anniversaries, and the presentation of the Bob Hope Humanitarian Award to Ted Danson and Mary Steenburgen, the 77th Emmy Awards delivered both memorable television and a ratings boost that the industry will welcome.

Ratings were sourced from Nielsen’s time-adjusted live plus same-day fast national data, including out-of-home viewing on Sunday, September 14, 2025.
