Will Arnett predicts ex-wife Amy Poehler will win Golden Globe podcast

Will Arnett Amy Poehler

Will Arnett is already bracing for a potential Golden Globe loss, and he’s joking that the trophy could end up with his ex-wife, Amy Poehler.

The former couple are both nominated in the newly introduced Best Podcast category at Sunday’s Golden Globe Awards, marking the first time the honor has been presented. Arnett’s hit podcast SmartLess is competing against Poehler’s Good Hang, alongside Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard, Call Her Daddy, The Mel Robbins Podcast, and Up First.

Asked by People whether he has an acceptance speech prepared, Arnett, 55, joked that he’s leaving that responsibility to SmartLess co-host Sean Hayes. “Sean has actually written all the speeches for all the nominees for every category,” Arnett quipped. “He’s written Amy’s acceptance speech already.”

Arnett co-hosts SmartLess with Hayes, 55, and Jason Bateman, 56. In December 2025, he shared a text message he received from Poehler after both podcasts were nominated. Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, Arnett read Poehler’s message aloud: “Congrats. Let’s party.” He added, laughing, that Poehler followed up with, “I don’t have Bateman’s number, but that’s for the best.”

Poehler launched Good Hang in March 2025 and has quickly built a strong following, making the friendly competition between the former spouses all the more notable.

Arnett and Poehler were married from 2003 to 2016 and share two sons, Archie, 17, and Abel, 15. Despite their divorce, the two have remained close and frequently praise each other’s parenting. Poehler appeared on SmartLess in April 2025, where Arnett openly credited her as a thoughtful and attentive mother. “I really seek her counsel,” Arnett said. “Whether it’s life or work, it’s important to me because I trust her.”

Arnett added that he’s proud of the co-parenting relationship they’ve built, calling it one of the most important accomplishments of their post-marriage lives. “There aren’t many people I speak to more than I speak to her,” he said. “It’s great. I feel really lucky.”

The Golden Globe Awards take place Sunday night, where one of the industry’s most talked-about former couples will see their podcasts go head-to-head, with no hard feelings either way.
