Warner Bros. confirms Lady Gaga in Joker 2

Joker

Warner Bros. Discovery is having a big week. After canceling the release of Leslie Grace’s Batgirl, as well as Scoob! Holiday Haunt, a sequel to the 2020 animated film Scoob!, the sequel to 2019’s Academy Award-winning blockbuster hit Joker, Joker: Folie à Deux now has a release date and it was shared by none other than Lady Gaga.

Gaga, The triple threat star, who has won Grammys, Golden Globes, and an Academy Award, is apparently starring in the sequel and she shared a teaser for the film, which will also star Joaquin Phoenix who will be reprising his role as Arthur Fleck/Joker and will be directed by Todd Phillips, who also co-wrote the script with Scott Silver. The teaser also shared the release date which is October 4, 2024. Watch below:

Back in June, Phillips shared the cover of the script, which shared the title of the upcoming DC film with the world as well as a photo of Phoenix reading the script and rumors were flying around about Gaga taking on the role of Harley Quinn.

We now have confirmation, from Gaga herself, that she will be playing Joker’s love interest Harley Quinn. In the first Joker movie, Phoenix played the role as if Arthur suffered from mental illness and the title of the upcoming film seems to hint that both Joker and Quinn will be portrayed as mentally ill as well.

The psychological term, Folie à deux, which translates directly to “Madness for Two” from French,  is defined as an identical or similar mental disorder affecting two or more individuals. Besides that hint, very little else is known about the film. This will be Phillips first musical and the first musical based on DC comics as well as Phoenix’s first sequel.

After Batgirl was permanently shelved, it was doubtful that anyone was worried about Joker 2. Considering the 2019 Joker became the highest-grossing R-rated DC movie and was nominated for 11 Academy Awards, it was safe to assume the next Joker was happening, regardless of WBD changing up their projects.

In addition to Joker 2, so far the projects that appear to be safe from the chopping block are Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, Black Adam, Shazam! Fury of the Gods, and a third Wonder Woman film, but who knows at this point with WBD announcing changes to their upcoming projects on almost a daily basis.
