True story USA v RAJ begins production

USA v RAJ

USA v RAJ is moving into production with a global release targeted for Summer 2026. Ravi K. Chandran directs the feature and dramatizes the real case of Dr. Raj Bothra, an Indian American surgeon who was arrested at 79 on 54 federal counts, spent 1,301 days in prison without bail, and was ultimately acquitted by a jury.

Based on the book USA v/s RAJ, unveiled at TIFF 2025 by filmmaker Ramesh Sippy, the film follows Bothra and his family through a protracted legal ordeal that raises questions about systemic failure and accountability.

Kabir Bedi stars as Dr. Bothra. Emily Shah plays his daughter Sonia. Ankur Bhatia also joins the cast. The creative team includes Oscar-winning sound designer Resul Pookutty. Prashant Shah produces under Bollywood Hollywood Productions with Twickenham Productions. Screenplay and dialogues are by Zill e Huma, Shubho Deep Pal, Hussain Dalal, and Abbas Dalal, from a book by Dr. Raj Bothra with Jenifer DeBellis.

“This is more than a legal drama,” says Chandran. “It is a human story about integrity, family, emotion, and the cost of systemic failure.”

Principal photography will take place at Twickenham Studios and on locations across the United Kingdom and India.
