The Batman: Part II is reportedly gearing up to begin principal photography in April 2026. According to Hollywood North Buzz, director Matt Reeves’ highly anticipated DC sequel will start filming in the UK this spring. The project is said to be operating under the working title Vengeance 2, a nod to the first film, which shot under the title Vengeance.
The update follows recent comments from co-writer Mattson Tomlin, who penned the script alongside Reeves. Talking to X, Tomlin described the sequel as a bold next chapter for Robert Pattinson’s Dark Knight.
“We worked exceptionally hard to tell a story worthy of the character. Something that feels new and dangerous,” Tomlin wrote. “The bar couldn’t be higher. Looking forward to people seeing it and being able to talk about it at length. Can’t begin to describe what this film means to me.”
Pattinson will return as Bruce Wayne and his masked alter ego, alongside Colin Farrell as Oswald Cobblepot, Jeffrey Wright as Lieutenant James Gordon, and Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth.
The sequel, currently slated for an October 2027 theatrical release, is also rumored to introduce Sebastian Stan as Harvey Dent and Scarlett Johansson in an undisclosed role, though those casting reports have not yet been officially confirmed by the studio.
Farrell previously hinted that the sequel would raise the intensity even further, despite his reduced screen time. “I’ve got an even smaller role in this one. But I’m OK with that,” Farrell told The Hollywood Reporter. “I’ve read the script, from start to finish, and I can’t say much about it. But it’s deeper, scarier, the stakes are bigger. I’m really excited to see it.”
Reeves, who returns to direct, has suggested that the new installment will pivot more fully toward Bruce Wayne himself after the first film focused heavily on Batman’s formative years as Gotham’s vigilante. “In a lot of the other films, which I love, once you get past the origin tale … then you start telling the Rogues Gallery story and that character’s sort of arch,” Reeves previously told Variety. “But I never wanted to lose Robert at the center of these stories, and so that is really what we set our aim on.”
He has also teased that the sequel’s primary antagonist will be a character not previously explored on the big screen.
Security around the production remains tight. Reeves revealed that scripts are kept in locked pouches with coded access, underscoring the studio’s efforts to prevent leaks as anticipation builds.
If production does begin in April, fans can expect the next chapter of Reeves’s darker, grounded Gotham saga to move swiftly toward its 2027 debut.
