Technicolor Closing: Rodeo FX acquires Mikros Animation

Rodeo FX Mikros Animation

Award-winning creative powerhouse Rodeo FX, known for its visual effects work on Game of Thrones, Stranger Things, and Dune Parts 1 & 2, has officially acquired Mikros Animation, the acclaimed animation studio behind PAW Patrol: The Mighty Movie, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem, and Orion and the Dark.

The acquisition marks a major milestone for Rodeo FX, extending its capabilities further into end-to-end animation while reinforcing its position as a global leader in high-end creative production.

“Welcoming Mikros Animation into our creative family isn’t just about growth,” said Sebastien Moreau, Founder & CEO of Rodeo FX. “It’s about aligning with people who share our passion for storytelling and the magic of animation. Together, we’re building a creative home where artists can dream bigger, push further, and inspire the world.”

Previously a part of the Technicolor Group, Mikros Animation has contributed to 17 feature-length animated films and hundreds of hours of animated series distributed in more than 180 countries. With major partnerships with Paramount, Netflix, and DreamWorks Animation, Mikros has earned a stellar reputation for its artistry and world-building.

“This marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter,” said Julien Meesters, the newly appointed President of Mikros Animation. “We’re embracing new challenges and evolving landscapes to ensure Mikros remains a leading home for filmmakers.”

As part of the acquisition, Rodeo FX has absorbed all of Mikros Animation’s operations, including Technicolor Canada’s equipment. Mikros will retain its brand identity and production pipeline, and most of its leadership and creative teams will remain in place.

“Above all, we want to preserve Mikros Animation’s creative magic,” added Jordan Soles, SVP and Partner at Rodeo FX. “This move strengthens both studios and lets us continue raising the bar for impactful storytelling.”

The studio recently received three Visual Effects Society Award nominations and contributed to Oscar-winning work on Dune. Rodeo is currently working on high-profile projects for Apple TV+, HBO, and Netflix, while Mikros is deep into production on PAW Patrol 3.

The acquisition comes on the heels of Technicolor Group’s bankruptcy filing last month, following years of financial restructuring efforts. While several of Technicolor’s divisions ceased operations or were sold off, Mikros Animation remained a key asset. The acquisition by Rodeo FX not only safeguards the future of Mikros and its artists, but also signals renewed confidence in the power of high-end animation to drive the next chapter of entertainment.

Together, Rodeo FX and Mikros Animation form a formidable global creative alliance—one that blends world-class VFX and character-driven animation, and promises to shape the future of cinematic storytelling.
