Taylor Swift made an unexpected appearance on Saturday Night Live this weekend, popping up during Dakota Johnson’s opening monologue for a quick joke about their friendship — and Johnson’s dating history.

Johnson, hosting the Oct. 3 episode, joked about having friends who “don’t judge me for dating these men” before introducing someone she described as her “literal therapist.”

Cue Swift.

“I’m not your therapist, actually,” Swift told her. “You just show up once a week at my house with an empty bottle of wine and ask if I want some.”

Swift continued the bit by saying Johnson flops onto her couch and overshares while she occasionally responds, “Damn, that’s crazy,” before eventually sending her home with Pedialyte and a security escort.

Johnson’s monologue leaned into her history of relationships with musicians, including her long-term relationship with Coldplay frontman Chris Martin. At one point, she joked that dating had taken her to “England and parts of Ireland and Cleveland,” prompting Swift to cheer from the stage. Watch below:

The cameo marked Swift’s first SNL appearance since October 2023, when she introduced musical guest Ice Spice. She previously hosted the show in 2009 and has appeared multiple times as a musical guest.

The appearance also continued a recent stretch of collaboration between Swift and Johnson. Johnson appears in Swift’s Patient Zero music video alongside Colin Farrell and Cara Delevingne, playing a woman caught in an abusive relationship.

Johnson recently praised Swift’s work behind the camera, calling her a “true visionary” and describing their creative chemistry as natural.

“It was so special,” Johnson told Extra. “We’re so close and to be able to work with your friend and have it actually go well and then also, like, feed each other’s creative minds … She’s such a good director.”

Johnson also told BBC Radio 1’s Greg James that she and Swift talk about “everything on the planet,” including true crime, and described Swift’s imagination as “this miraculous, intricate wonderland.”

For SNL, though, the friendship was distilled into something simpler: wine, oversharing and one very famous “therapist.”
