Taylor Sheridan and Luke Grimes saddle up for CBS in Y: Marshals

Y: Marshals

CBS is bringing a dose of Yellowstone-style grit to Sunday nights next spring with the newly announced series Y: Marshals (working title), a spinoff led by Luke Grimes, who reprises his role as Kayce Dutton. The announcement was made by Amy Reisenbach, President of CBS Entertainment, during the network’s 2025–2026 upfronts presentation.

Produced by Taylor Sheridan and MTV Entertainment Studios, the new drama marks Sheridan’s latest expansion of the Yellowstone universe—this time tailored for broadcast television.

“Kayce Dutton puts the Yellowstone ranch behind him and joins up with the marshals using his Navy SEAL skills and cowboy skills to bring justice to the Montana range,” said Reisenbach.

Grimes’ character—John Dutton’s son—was last seen in December’s Yellowstone finale on Paramount Network. Now, he trades the ranch for the range, joining an elite unit of U.S. Marshals where justice is personal, and the landscape is unforgiving. The official series description promises a high-stakes blend of action, emotional depth, and Montana-scale drama:

With the Yellowstone Ranch behind him, Kayce Dutton joins an elite unit of U.S. Marshals, combining his skills as a cowboy and Navy SEAL to bring range justice to Montana—where he and his teammates must balance family, duty, and the high psychological cost of being the last line of defense in a violent region.

Few plot specifics have been revealed, and it’s not yet known whether Kelsey Asbille will reprise her role as Monica Dutton, or how the series will intersect with other Yellowstone characters. Fan favorites Rip Wheeler (Cole Hauser) and Beth Dutton (Kelly Reilly) are rumored to lead another spinoff that has yet to be formally announced.

Y: Marshals is set to debut on CBS Sunday nights in spring 2026, followed by streaming availability on Paramount+. While Sheridan’s involvement is confirmed, the extent of his day-to-day creative input is still being finalized.

“Taylor is a very busy guy,” said Reisenbach. “We’ll take what we can get.”

Despite Sheridan’s reputation for high-budget productions like 1923, Landman, and Special Ops: Lioness, George Cheeks, Co-CEO of Paramount Global, assured press that Y: Marshals will stay in line with typical CBS series budgets.

  • Executive Producers: Taylor Sheridan, David C. Glasser (101 Studios), John Linson, Art Linson, Spencer Hudnut (also showrunner), Luke Grimes, Ron Burkle, David Hutkin, Bob Yari

With Y: Marshals, CBS is betting on star power, franchise loyalty, and the enduring appeal of Sheridan’s rugged frontier world—this time, with a lawman’s badge.
