DC Studios is returning to Georgia. Filmmaker James Gunn has confirmed that Superman: Man of Tomorrow will begin production in April 2026, with filming based at Trilith Studios in Fayetteville, just outside Atlanta. The film serves as a continuation of the new DC Universe launched with Superman in 2025, though it is not being positioned as a traditional sequel.
The project is reportedly operating under the production code name Exodus, following Gunn’s first Superman, which filmed under the code name Genesis.
Back to Trilith Studios
Man of Tomorrow marks Gunn’s second consecutive DC feature to be headquartered at Trilith, following Superman and Peacemaker Season 2, as well as earlier Marvel projects. Trilith has become one of the most advanced production campuses in the world and a major hub for tentpole filmmaking.
The 2025 Superman proved to be a significant economic driver for Georgia. According to Deadline and the Motion Picture Association, the film was shot for 68 days across the greater Atlanta area, generating $82.8 million in local economic activity and surpassing $100 million when combined with production in Georgia and Ohio.
That production also:
- Created 1,233 local jobs
- Employed 2,628 background performers
- Supported 441 Georgia-based businesses
- Delivered $43.6 million in local wages
Gunn, who co-chairs DC Studios alongside Peter Safran, owns a home in Fayette County. Sources say he has been a vocal advocate for keeping DC’s major productions in Georgia, citing the experienced workforce and competitive film tax incentives.
What to Expect from Man of Tomorrow
David Corenswet returns as Clark Kent Superman, opposite Nicholas Hoult’s Lex Luthor. While their rivalry continues, reports suggest the two characters may be forced into an uneasy alliance against a larger threat.
Several DC characters are rumored to appear, including Milly Alcock’s Supergirl, Jason Momoa’s Lobo, and John Cena’s Peacemaker. Isabela Merced’s Hawkgirl may also return, after the actor teased fans on Instagram with the caption, “See you soon.”
Industry speculation points to cosmic-scale antagonists such as Brainiac, or possibly the introduction of teams like The Authority. The film is also expected to begin laying groundwork for the eventual formation of the Justice League within Gunn’s expanding DCU.
Gunn’s DC Future Under Scrutiny
Despite the success of Superman and Peacemaker, Gunn’s long-term future at DC Studios is drawing increased scrutiny amid the pending sale of Warner Bros. Discovery to Netflix.
Bloomberg reports that Gunn and Safran’s contracts, previously set to expire in October 2026, have been extended through spring 2027. When they were initially named co-CEOs of DC Studios in 2022, the Hollywood Reporter noted they had four-year terms; the new details indicate that WBD quietly extended their tenure by several months.
The extension aligns with comments from outgoing Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav, who could not have been more effusive about the duo’s impact: “The work of James and Peter, their creative vision, it’s compelling and a great economic return. There’s no storytelling content that we have that provides a bigger palette than DC, and there’s nobody around right now who can tell these stories with the same imagination and excitement.”
Despite the seismic sale, Bloomberg also notes that Gunn and Safran are “not letting larger corporate goings-on alter their plans.” Inside the studio, the pair are continuing to develop scripts and build out the long-planned DC Universe roadmap.
Warner Bros. Discovery has set a July 9, 2027, release date for Superman: Man of Tomorrow. Supergirl, Lanterns and Clayface are coming in 2026. Man of Tomorrow is set to hit theaters July 9, 2027.
