DC Studios just dropped the first teaser for Supergirl, and zoinks! Kara Zor-El has never looked like this before. House of the Dragon breakout Milly Alcock steps into the cape, and if this brief preview is any indication, she’s about to redefine the character for the DCU.
The trailer is officially coming later this week, scoopers keep pointing to Thursday, but DC didn’t wait to get the buzz rolling. Select press in New York were invited to a sleek, very-DC-Studios launch event to get the first look at Alcock’s Woman of Tomorrow.
This matches the studio’s new strategy: roll out the red carpet early, build momentum, make each reveal feel like an event. Last year’s Superman campaign followed the same playbook. If history repeats itself, expect a poster drop within 24 hours and maybe even a few breadcrumbs about the wider DCU from James Gunn and Peter Safran.
But let’s get to the footage.
The teaser is only seconds long, but it makes a statement. This isn’t the polished, classic Kara. This is the version straight out of Tom King and Bilquis Evely’s Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. She is travel-worn, sitting alone at a dusty intergalactic “bus stop,” and carrying the weight of a life spent fighting her way through the universe. Alcock nails the vibe: haunted, fierce, and absolutely magnetic. Watch below:

Gunn has been open about where Kara fits into the new DCU, especially after her brief appearance in Superman next year. He’s described her as someone who’s been off living her own chaotic, messy, emotionally charged life – right down to leaving her dog with Clark, who reluctantly becomes its caretaker.
What’s most telling from Gunn’s comments is the emotional contrast between Clark and Kara. Clark is empathy personified. Kara is rawer, rougher, shaped by a much harsher upbringing. The teaser leans into that difference beautifully.
The Story
In Supergirl, Kara sets out across the galaxy to celebrate her 21st birthday with Krypto the Superdog. Her plans derail when she meets Ruthye, a young woman on a mission of vengeance, drawing Supergirl into a violent odyssey that’s equal parts cosmic adventure and emotional reckoning.
