Epic Games and Disney are forging new ground in immersive entertainment with the in-game premiere of Star Wars: Tales of the Underworld, debuting exclusively in Fortnite on May 2—two days before its official Disney+ launch. This marks the first time a Disney+ series has premiered inside a video game, spotlighting an expansive new era for both platforms.
Announced during Star Wars Celebration, this unprecedented event kicks off Fortnite: GALACTIC BATTLE, an all-new Battle Royale season steeped in Star Wars lore. The season begins May 2 and will roll out weekly content updates, featuring playable characters like Darth Jar Jar and Emperor Palpatine, plus the return of X-wings and TIE Fighters. The season will climax in a cinematic, in-game live event titled Death Star Sabotage.
A Galaxy Far, Far Away Comes to Fortnite
On May 2 at 10am ET, Fortnite will unveil its new Star Wars Watch Party Island, built using Unreal Editor for Fortnite (UEFN) with official Lucasfilm assets. Players can view the first two episodes of Tales of the Underworld inside a custom-built Star Wars theater—and then join battle scenarios where Stormtroopers descend, forcing players to defend with blasters and lightsabers.
At the heart of the new series are two fan-favorite villains: Asajj Ventress, the deadly assassin-turned-bounty hunter, and Cad Bane, the cold-blooded mercenary. The anthology from Dave Filoni continues the Tales legacy, following Tales of the Jedi (2022) and Tales of the Empire (2024), offering a gritty exploration of the criminal underworld. Link, Unlock, and Suit Up
To deepen integration between the Epic and Disney ecosystems, players can now link their Epic Games and MyDisney accounts. Those who do will immediately receive an exclusive First Order Stormtrooper outfit, with more perks promised in the future. This is the first initiative in a broader effort to create a connected Disney gaming and entertainment universe within Fortnite.
“We’re building the next era of digital entertainment,” said Sean Shoptaw, EVP of Disney Games & Digital Entertainment. “Fans can play, watch, create and connect—and we’re just beginning to tap into what’s possible.”
“This Star Wars collaboration reimagines what’s possible with immersive storytelling,” added Adam Sussman, President of Epic Games. “And there’s a lot more to come.”
