Looking for your next great restaurant, bar, or neighborhood stroll? Square and Entropico have dropped Good Neighboirs, a three-part docuseries that’s already earning comparisons to Parts Unknown, How I Built This, and The Bear. Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Kaius Potter and hosted by chef Joel Bennetts, the series spotlights the independent venues and entrepreneurs who form the beating heart of Sydney’s most iconic neighborhoods.
Traversing the Inner West, Bondi Beach, and everything in between, Good Neighbours asks a deceptively simple question: What does it really mean to be a good neighbor in the fast-moving world of hospitality?
The series marks the latest collaboration in a long-running partnership between Square and Entropico, following projects from the team behind Netflix’s ONEFOUR: Against All Odds and ESPN/Disney+’s Lane Violation. It’s another example of the group’s knack for high craft, culturally plugged-in storytelling.
Potter, known for his intimate verité style and mixed-media visual language, leans into that signature approach here. Self-taught and shaped by years of documenting the subcultures around him, he blends long-lens observation, up-close fisheye shots, 35mm bursts, and 16mm film to bring viewers inside the generosity, resilience, and camaraderie that sustain beloved spots like Happyfield, Lox In A Box, and Earl’s Juke Joint. Watch below:
“Diving into a long-form series to tell grassroots community stories was honestly a dream,” says director Kaius Potter. “The challenge was shooting in open venues that were buzzing the entire time. A curated mixed-media approach let us catch real moments as they unfolded. Interviews were shot digitally, but most of the b-roll was a mix of long-lens observation, up-close fisheye, 35mm photo bursts, and 16mm film. Square backed that vision from day one, even when they couldn’t always see what we were capturing in real time, and the texture we captured feels like the truest, most tactile version of these neighborhoods.”
Entropico GM Kyle Blanshard says the series exemplifies exactly what the company aims to create: storytelling that bridges entertainment and brand. “This is a distinctive piece of brand storytelling because Square’s connection to these neighborhoods is so well established and genuine. Kaius Potter’s unique ability to connect with local culture and craft emotionally resonant stories makes this a must-watch heading into Sydney summer – a beautiful celebration of the collective spirit of Sydney.”
Square Creative Director Kae Yen Wong adds, “Being a good neighbour is about more than business. It’s about showing up for your community. Sydney’s venues are the soul of their neighborhoods, creating spaces where people connect, belong, and grow. Working with Entropico and Kaius helped us tell those stories in a way that truly captures that spirit.”
Blanshard sums it up simply: “We ourselves are a community-first company that started in Sydney, so it’s been such a pleasure to celebrate other independent Sydney businesses that are pushing our collective culture forward.”
