Spider-Man: Brand New Day continues to spin a historic web around the box office. The Sony and Marvel blockbuster easily remained No. 1 in North America, taking in another $145 million from 4,487 theaters during the Aug. 7-9 weekend. After just 10 days, the Tom Holland-led sequel has amassed $655.1 million domestically and $1.67 billion worldwide.

The film dropped 60 percent from its record-setting opening weekend, but its sophomore frame was still large enough to dwarf the competition. In fact, Brand New Day alone earned more than the entire domestic marketplace did during the comparable weekend in 2025, according to Screendollars.

The overall weekend generated approximately $199.7 million from the Top 10.

Spider-Man’ Keeps Breaking Records

Brand New Day has been tearing through box office milestones since opening July 31.

Its records include a $60 million Thursday preview gross, a $169.8 million opening day, a $360.1 million opening weekend and a $510.1 million opening week. It also posted record Monday and Tuesday grosses of $47.1 million and $42 million, respectively.

After 10 days, Brand New Day is running dramatically ahead of 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home. The earlier film stood at $470.4 million domestic after the same period, compared with $655.1 million for the new installment.

The blockbuster surge is also providing a major lift for exhibitors. AMC reported its highest weekend revenue in the chain’s 106-year history, along with record food-and-beverage sales. Cinemark and Marcus also reported record or near-record business across box office, premium formats and concessions.

For a theatrical industry that has spent years trying to rebuild moviegoing habits, Spidey is providing one very large reason for optimism.

‘The Odyssey’ Sails Past $1.1 Billion

Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey continued its own remarkable run, finishing second with $31.5 million in its fourth weekend, down only 38 percent. The Universal epic has now collected $461.7 million domestically and $1.104 billion worldwide after 24 days.

That makes The Odyssey Nolan’s biggest worldwide box office performer, surpassing The Dark Knight Rises, which finished with approximately $1.085 billion globally. It has also blown past Oppenheimer’s $330.1 million domestic total.

The comparison to Oppenheimer is particularly striking. After 24 days, Nolan’s 2023 Oscar winner had earned $264.3 million domestically. The Odyssey is already nearly $200 million ahead at the same point in its run.

And there is still significant territory ahead.

The Odyssey opens in China Aug. 14 across a reported 9,000 theaters and potentially 25,000 to 35,000 screens, including approximately 800 IMAX auditoriums. That launch could give Nolan’s epic another substantial global boost.

‘One Night Only’ Struggles to Find Audience Love

Universal’s new romantic comedy One Night Only debuted in third place with a modest $5.7 million from 3,012 theaters.

Directed by Will Gluck, the film stars Monica Barbaro and Callum Turner alongside Maya Hawke, Julia Fox, Molly Ringwald, LeVar Burton and Nicholas Braun.

The $25 million film arrives as Hollywood continues trying to determine whether romantic comedies can once again become theatrical attractions rather than primarily streaming fare.

Its opening is nearly identical to the $6 million debut of Gluck’s Anyone But You in 2023. That movie ultimately became a sleeper hit, reaching $88.3 million domestically and $220 million worldwide.

Whether lightning can strike twice remains to be seen. One Night Only currently carries a 46 percent critics score and 71 percent audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.

A Not So Super Opening for ‘Super Troopers 3’

Searchlight’s Super Troopers 3 opened in fourth place with $4 million from 2,760 locations.

The latest reunion of the Broken Lizard comedy troupe came in well below Super Troopers 2, which debuted to $15.2 million in 2018.

Produced for an estimated $15 million, the sequel reunites Jay Chandrasekhar, Kevin Heffernan, Steve Lemme, Paul Soter and Erik Stolhanske, with Brian Cox and Lynda Carter also returning.

Reviews have been lukewarm, with a reported 49 percent critics score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day spins $355M domestic opening

‘Toy Story 5’ Refuses to Leave

Eight weekends into its run, Disney and Pixar’s Toy Story 5 somehow remains in the Top Five.

The animated sequel earned another $3.9 million, bringing its domestic total to $470.4 million and its worldwide haul to approximately $1.094 billion.

Screendollars notes that no film during the four years it has published its weekend analysis has remained among the Top Five for eight consecutive weekends.

Toy Story 5 has accomplished that despite 17 new movies entering theaters since its June 19 release—including Minions & Monsters, Moana, The Odyssey and the biggest opening-weekend movie in history.

Elsewhere, Minions & Monsters placed sixth with $3.5 million, followed by Moana with $2.8 million. Horror release Ice Cream Man debuted in eighth with $2 million, while A24’s The Invite and CatVideoFest 2026 rounded out the Top 10.

Weekend Box Office Top 10

The larger theatrical picture is increasingly encouraging. Through Aug. 6, domestic box office stood at $6.26 billion, up 18 percent from the same point in 2025 and 27 percent ahead of 2024. Attendance is up 12 percent year-over-year.
