Audi celebrates the faces of AFI’s female filmmakers

There are a few reasons why the REEL360 team believes that AFI, which happens every November in Los Angeles, is the city’s best film festival.

Besides the carefully culled curation of amazing and provocative features, documentaries and shorts, the festival truly shows its love for film and filmmakers. This can be seen in a bevy of ways, beginning with offering free tickets (Yes, Free!) to the public.

Whether it’s a gala, like tonight’s Widows presentation, or a shorts block, the general public has the opportunity to reserve tickets. Sure, it also means standing in a lottery line, but what the heck – they are free.

Another reason to admire the festival, is Audi’s support. The Germany-based auto giant has been a proud supporter of the AFI for 15 years. Their show is very visible on Hollywood Blvd from their iconic logo to surprising installations.

This year is no different as Audi and the AFI have chosen to celebrate female filmmakers with an outstanding digital mapping salute on the Roosevelt Hotel, home to the fest.

Created as a collaboration between Audi’s marketing communications agency, PMK*BNC and Santa Monica-based projection mapping studio BARTKRESA, the mapping lasts approximately 6 minutes, showcasing over 200 women filmmakers from AFI FEST 2018 including AFI Conservatory fellows. Over 80 filmmakers are featured across directing, cinematography, editing, producing, production design and screenwriting.

A PMK spokeswoman had this to say, “Long before the world woke to the imperative of more women filmmakers, Audi’s message was about igniting the development and mentoring of the next generation of female leaders, working across industries and age groups to ensure everyone has a fair shot.”

She added, “AFI and Audi celebrate, embrace and recognize the change happening within the industry — more women in leadership positions, more opportunities for women in filmmaking and more recognition of women behind the scenes.”

According to the agency, the mapping is all part of Audi’s larger initiative Drive Progress. The initiative is to support the advancement of women in the workforce through partnerships, fellowships and grants. As part of the commitment, Audi has developed programs such as the AFI Audi Fellowship, which supports one female director for her entire two-year AFI Conservatory enrollment.

The content will illuminate the hotel every night from 6 PM to 11:00 PM PST (November 8 – 15th, 2018). Stop by and check it out if you have the chance.
