Sofía Vergara teaches Owen Wilson Spanish for Telemundo

Telemundo

Sofía Vergara puts Owen Wilson through a crash course in Spanish in a surprise Super Bowl ad for Telemundo, produced by Caviar and directed by Jason Woliner and Alan Yang.

Telemundo went bigger than ever around the Big Game in 2026, rolling out wall-to-wall coverage across Telemundo, Universo, and Peacock with Telemundo Deportes Ahora Live from San Francisco. With a halftime show led by recent Album of the Year Grammy winner Bad Bunny, the cultural moment sparked a playful interest in brushing up on Spanish, making Telemundo a natural home for a wink-and-nod language-learning concept.

Created by Telemundo’s in-house marketing team, Red Bee, the spot follows Vergara tutoring Wilson over four months ahead of a surprise turn as a fútbol announcer on the network, an unexpected payoff that plays to both stars’ strengths. Watch below:

Behind the camera, Woliner and Yang bring serious comedic firepower. Woliner directed Borat Subsequent Movie Film, which the New York Times named the best film of 2020, and has helmed episodes of What We Do in the Shadows, Nathan for You, and Parks and Recreation, among others. He also revisits language-themed humor after his work on Duolingo’s 2024 “Duo on Ice” campaign, which helped the brand earn Ad Age’s Brand of the Year honors.

Yang, an Emmy winner and co-creator of Master of None, is also known for his writing and producing on Parks and Recreation and as a consulting producer on The Good Place. His Apple TV+ series Loot debuted in 2022, and he recently produced the 2025 feature Good Fortune.

The result is a sharp, culture-aware Super Bowl moment that leans into humor, language, and star chemistry, while smartly aligning Telemundo with the night’s broader conversation.
