Another September comes to an end.
So, that means so does one of the most popular independent horror film festivals in the country. Shriekfest, the Los Angeles International Film Festival & Screenplay Competiton, wrapped up its 19th year last weekend at Raleigh Studios in Hollywood.
After screening 48 films and judging 40 screenplay finalists, the fest announced its winners.
Making Monsters directed by Justin Harding & Rob Brunner took the prize for Best Horror Feature Film. The film follows a celebrity YouTube couple who are invited to a friend’s converted church in the countryside for a weekend getaway, a series of startling events unfold that spiral them into an inexplicable nightmare.
Volition, a mind-bending science-fiction thriller, where the line between fate and free-will blurs directed by Tony Dean Smith took the Best Sci-Fi Feature Film Award.
Greenlight, which follows a young director who gets involved in a real-life murder plot while directing his debut feature, and directed by Graham Denman took the Best Thriller Feature Film Award.

OverKill directed by Alex Montilla took the Best Horror Short Film Award, We Die Alone directed by Marc Cartwright won the Best Thriller Short Film Award and Peep directed by Zachary Dehm took the Best Super Short Film Award.
The winner of the Best Horror Feature Screenplay went to The Blood-Red Night of Hatchet Valley written by Edward Martin III, the winner of the Best Sci-Fi Feature Screenplay goes to Dark Noise written by Christopher Allan Poe & Jen Badasci, and the winner of the Best Thriller Feature Screenplay goes to Agriturismo written by Nick Rufca.
Festival Director Denise Gossett, who has been voted “Most Influential Woman in Genre” by SyFy Wire says “I’m so very proud of all of these talented people. It is an honor to know them.”
There was also a commercial category, that yours truly may or may not have won. We won!
