Mountain Dew is bringing a wild, Baja blast-inspired twist to the Super Bowl with its latest commercial, featuring none other than Seal—transformed into an actual seal. The 30-second spot, set to air during the second quarter of the game, showcases the 15-time Grammy nominee washing up on Baja Beach to serenade Becky G with “Kiss from a Lime”—a playful reimagining of his iconic hit “Kiss from a Rose.”
Created by Goodby Silverstein & Partners and directed by Taika Waititi, the commercial also features Mountain Dew’s quirky mascot, Mountain Dude, who returns for his second Super Bowl appearance.
The ad starts with Mountain Dew’s laid-back mascot, Mountain Dude, offering Becky G a Baja Blast. After taking a sip, she finds herself transported to the ocean, where Seal suddenly appears—only, he’s not quite himself. Instead, he’s been transformed into an actual seal, perched atop a rock formation, surrounded by a chorus of seals harmonizing to the tune of his 1994 hit “Kiss From a Rose.”
A Baja Blast Serenade
Seal, in full aquatic form, belts out a new parody version of his song, “Kiss From a Lime,” swapping out lyrics to fit the tropical theme:
“Baby, I compare it to a kiss from a lime, on the bay.
Ohh, the more I think about it, it’s strange I’m a seal, yeah.”
The performance takes a humorous turn when Seal, still in seal form, struggles to hold a Mountain Dew bottle, lamenting, “It slips right on through” his flippers. As sharks ominously circle the scene, everything goes silent—until Seal dramatically croons:
“There’s so much a seal can tell you, so much he can say.
Dew remains my power, my pleasure, my flame.” Watch below:
“I had a blast coming up with new lyrics and loved collaborating with their team to bring this campaign to life in such a fun and unexpected way,” Seal shared in a statement to Adweek.
Mountain Dew’s Super Bowl Takeover
“The cultural impact of the Super Bowl is undeniable, and having Mountain Dew Baja Blast be a part of it for the second year in a row is incredibly exciting for us as a brand,” added Mark Kirkham, Pepsi and Sparkling Brands’ SVP of Marketing.
Beyond the commercial, Mountain Dew is activating in New Orleans with two fan experiences:
- Spot the Baja Blast Campervan – A roaming activation where fans can sample Baja Blast, sing karaoke, and score exclusive merch like t-shirts and beads.
- Escape to Baja Beach – Hosted at The Frat House bar, this event gives visitors a chance to meet the Mountain Dude himself.
With a surreal celebrity cameo, a catchy parody song, and an immersive brand presence in New Orleans, Mountain Dew is once again making a splash at the biggest advertising event of the year.
