Romy and Michele are officially back. Mira Sorvino and Lisa Kudrow reunited onstage at D23 to introduce Romy & Michele 2, the long-awaited sequel to the beloved 1997 comedy Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion.
And because subtlety was never really Romy and Michele’s thing, the entrance came complete with a shower of yellow Post-it notes – a nod to one of the original film’s most memorable running jokes.
The sequel will be directed by Tim Federle, whose credits include High School Musical: The Musical: The Series.
Sorvino and Kudrow reprise their roles as Romy White and Michele Weinberger, the inseparable best friends whose questionable relationship with the truth helped turn the original into a cult favorite.

They’ll be joined by a strong ensemble that includes Alan Cumming, Camryn Manheim, Keegan-Michael Key, Rob Huebel, Breckin Meyer, Wendi McLendon-Covey and Janeane Garofalo.
The return of Cumming and Garofalo gives the sequel an additional connection to the original film, while the expanded cast adds several new comedy heavyweights to the mix.
Plot details remain under wraps, but the simple fact that Romy and Michele are back together was enough to draw one of the more nostalgic reactions of the 20th Century Studios portion of the showcase.
The first film became a touchstone for late-’90s comedy thanks to its candy-colored fashion, endlessly quotable dialogue and the oddball chemistry between Sorvino and Kudrow.
Nearly three decades later, the sequel has a chance to revisit that friendship without simply replaying the reunion gimmick that defined the original.
