Nick Reiner makes first court appearance; arraignment pushed

Nick Reiner

Nick Reiner, 32, the son of filmmaker Rob Reiner and photographer-producer Michele Singer Reiner, appeared in a Los Angeles courtroom on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, marking his first formal court appearance since being charged in connection with their deaths.

Reiner, who faces two counts of first-degree murder with special circumstances, did not enter a plea at the brief hearing and waived his right to a speedy arraignment. His next court date, the formal arraignment, is now scheduled for January 7, 2026, at the request of his defense team.

The judge presided over a short proceeding, with Reiner seated behind a glass partition, appearing calm in shackles and a blue suicide smock. Cameras were barred from filming the appearance. Prosecutors have charged him with special circumstance allegations tied to multiple murders and use of a deadly weapon, meaning if convicted, he could face life in prison without parole or, theoretically, the death penalty. However, officials have not yet decided yet.

Reiner’s attorney, Alan Jackson, waived the speedy arraignment and acknowledged outside court that the matter is complex and that the legal process needs to unfold deliberately. Friends and family, including his siblings, have released statements expressing heartbreak and asking for privacy as the case moves through the courts.

This first court appearance comes days after authorities found Rob and Michele Reiner dead in their Brentwood home and charged their son following his arrest. Investigators have not publicly released a motive, and the case remains under active investigation.
