Los Angeles authorities have taken 32-year-old Nick Reiner into custody in the wake of the tragic deaths of his parents, director and actor Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, law enforcement records show.

Jail records indicate Nick Reiner was booked early Monday morning on suspicion of murder and is currently being held on $4 million bail, according to multiple reports.

The arrests come after firefighters responding to a medical emergency Sunday afternoon found Rob Reiner, 78, and Michele Singer Reiner, 68, dead inside their Brentwood home. Both had suffered fatal stab wounds, and the Los Angeles Police Department’s Robbery-Homicide Division is leading the investigation.

Rob Reiner was a towering figure in American film and television, known for directing classics like This Is Spinal Tap, Stand By Me, When Harry Met Sally…, The Princess Bride and A Few Good Men, and for his twice Emmy-winning role as “Meathead” on All in the Family. Michele Singer Reiner was a noted portrait photographer and cultural figure.

In a 2016 interview with PEOPLE, Nick Reiner spoke openly about his long struggle with drug addiction, which began in his early teens and led to years of instability, including periods of homelessness and repeated stays in rehab. He said those experiences later inspired the semi-autobiographical film Being Charlie, which he co-wrote.

At the time, Nick told PEOPLE he had returned to Los Angeles and was reconnecting with his family after years of hardship.
