Michael Waldron to write and helm Avengers: The Kang Dynasty

Michael Waldron, the creative mind behind the Disney+ show Loki, is set to broaden his involvement with Marvel Studios. After the success of Loki, Waldron is now tapped to write the script for Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and its follow-up, Avengers: Secret Wars.

Initially, Jeff Loveness, known for his work on Rick & Morty and having written Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, was assigned to Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. However, Waldron will now take the reins for both installments. The reasons for Loveness’ departure remain undisclosed, with speculation linking it to the underwhelming box-office performance of Quantumania.

Waldron’s collaboration with Marvel extends beyond Loki. He previously wrote Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Although he did not return for the second season of Loki, focusing on his wrestling drama Heels, Waldron’s impact on the Marvel universe continues to grow.

REELated:

Avengers: The Kang Dynasty is scheduled for release on May 1, 2026, followed by Avengers: Secret Wars on May 7, 2027, marking the conclusion of Phase 6 in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Given recent challenges and delays caused by industry strikes, these dates are subject to change.

Waldron’s appointment as the writer for the upcoming Avengers films was first reported by Deadline, showcasing his continued contributions to Marvel Studios’ expanding narrative.
