‘Matrix’ casts two more for upcoming production

Warner BrosThe Matrix revival is gearing up for production, presumably in Chicago, for early next year. Thus the final cast members are being added.

Last night, Comic Book Movie News reported that Mindhunter and Frozen II star Jonathan Groff had signed on in an undisclosed role.

Now Deadline reports that Toby Onwumere will reunite with Sense8 co-creator Lana Wachowski in the sci-fi sequel.

Details on Onwumere’s character are also being kept mum. They join Matrix vets Keanu Reeves (John Wick, upcoming Bill and Ted Face The Music) and Carrie Anne Moss (Marvel’s Jessica Jones). Other new cast members include Jessica Henwick (Iron Fist) and Neil Patrick Harris (Gone Girl).

Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (Aquaman, Watchman) is rumored to be playing a younger version of Mopheus.

Although the story, co-written by Lana Wachowski and Aleksander Hemon (Sense8) and David Mitchell (Cloud Atlas), has a tight lid on it, The Matrix 4 will presumably take place after the events of the divisive Revolution.

Jada Pinkett Smith is rumored to be in negotiations to reprise the role of Niobe. No release date has been announced for The Matrix 4 yet.
