Boom! Marvel Studios is celebrating this Independence Day with a special treat for fans: a fresh look at Anthony Mackie as Captain America in the upcoming film Captain America: Brave New World. Previously titled New World Order, the film has recently completed its final reshoots, and excitement is building.

The studio shared a behind-the-scenes image of Mackie in his updated Captain America suit, proudly wielding the vibranium shield passed to him by Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) in Avengers: Endgame. This new look at Sam Wilson as Captain America is generating a lot of buzz.

A few weeks ago, the first official stills from the movie were released, showing our new Captain America meeting President “Thunderbolt” Ross, played by Harrison Ford. In the movie, Ross will ask Wilson to reform The Avengers, setting the stage for a thrilling storyline.

Footage shown at CinemaCon last month featured Ross welcoming Wilson to the White House to commend him for his heroism. However, the celebration is cut short when music triggers sleeper agent assassins, including Carl Lumbly’s Isaiah Bradley, who attempt to assassinate the President.

In a recent interview, Mackie shared his excitement about the film’s direction. “It made more sense for it to be more of a grounded espionage action movie as opposed to aliens and airplanes coming through portals and sh*t,” he said. “Even though I’ve been in so many of them and have seen it all now, the opportunity for Sam to really establish himself as a true action star and Avenger comes with this movie.”

“This movie is a clear reset,” Mackie added. “It really re-establishes the idea of what this universe is and what this universe is going to be. I think with these movies, you’re getting a clear, new branding of what Marvel is headed towards the same way they did with Captain America: The Winter Soldier.”

Joining Mackie and Ford in Captain America: Brave New World are Danny Ramirez as the new Falcon, Shira Haas as Israeli superheroine Sabra, Liv Tyler as Betty Ross, and Tim Blake Nelson as The Leader. While specific plot details remain under wraps, rumors suggest that Samuel Sterns will be revealed as the “secret benefactor” behind the Serpent Society, possibly funding the group and providing them with advanced technology.

Captain America: Brave New World is set to hit theaters on February 14, 2025. Mark your calendars.
